English Access Microscholarship Program (Access)
English Access Microscholarship Program- Access is a project to develop a group of young people as global citizen and who will be educated about American Culture, values and democracy. In addition, this group will be fluent in American English and expertly handle the IT for educational purpose. To reach the goal, Empowerment and Human Development Society-EHDS successfully started to implement the Access program in Sylhet region first time supported by the U.S Embassy-Dhaka. The program has started from October, 2017 by following the rules and guidelines from the Access program provider book and cordial support from the U.S. Embassy-Dhaka. It is a after school program for the high school level students. In Bangladesh the program has been started since 2008 and now-a-days this program run to Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi and Sylhet division. EHDS is the second Implementing Agency (IA’s) in Bangladesh.
Project goal: The goal of this project is to develop a group of young people as global citizen and who will be educated about American Culture, values and democracy. In addition, this group will be fluent in American English and expertly handle the IT for educational purpose.
Enhancement Activity: The English Access Microscholarship Program (Access) is a US State Department funded program that strive to provides a foundation of English-language skills to talented 13- to 20-year-olds from disadvantaged sectors around the world through after-school classes and intensive summer sessions in their home communities. As part of their course work, Access students gain an appreciation for American culture and democratic values, increase their ability to participate in their countries’ socioeconomic development and better prepare themselves to compete for future U.S. exchange and study programs. The program also provides US-based professional development and English-language workshops for selected teachers and students. In this regards Enhancement activity one of the major components of the Access program. Through the programs participants will not have only developed and improved their English language skills, by these Enhancement activities they will also better prepare themselves for future cultural exchange and study programs. In the project period EHDS have to conduct total 25 Enhancement activities on U.S culture & values, Personnel development and Community services as per project guideline.
